LOCALLY: Faith Community Church has purchased the supplies and assembled critically needed Crisis Care Kits. FCC has also donated hunderds of dollars, tents, and other needed supplies. More importantly the church hosted two special prayer meetings to specifically pray for Haiti, keeping those in need in our prayers will continue for many weeks and months. FCC has worked with Cunningham Creek Elementary school to ship 70 cases of water. We partnered with Helping Hands as they donated and assembled more Crisis Care Kits. It has been our pleasure to act as a collection center for the community. We worked with Switzerland Community Church and three other churches in our District to collect and deliver supplies to Miami. We have also coordinated collecting supplies with a school in KS. Most recently we rented a U Haul and sent two drivers to Miami to drop off supplies so they could be shipped to Haiti.
NATIONAL: The Church of the Nazarene has a strong missionary presence in Haiti. They will continue to have a well organized relief response through the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. On February 4, 2010, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, through partnership with Heart to Heart International, received an air shipment of 38,000 lbs of food. Heart to Heart International graciously donated the 21,805 lbs of assorted food (such as canned soups, vegetables, fruit, baby formula, and fish), as well as 440 cases (15,840 bags or 14,621 lbs) of fortified vegetable rice-soy casserole. This shipment also included an initial supply of tents to provide shelter for pastors and local church members whose homes were destroyed in the quake. Many have found supplies to make temporary shelters, but as the rainy season approaches, more permanent shelters will be needed. This is the first of two shipments that will carry in tents.
The Caribbean Compassionate Ministries has compiled a list of items that are in urgent need. Individuals or groups can collect these items and bring to Faith Community Church. FCC will serve as a collection point and serve to pack and ship to Miami. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries has made arrangements to get the supplies from Miami to Haiti. Anyone who wants to volunteer with packing & shipping should email the church.
